Normalcy is a state of mind. It is the constant below-consciousness decisions to adhere to the norms, not be the outlier, opt against becoming deviant, statistically. And yet that word, deviant, carries with it such negative connotations. The language itself forces us to adhere to the norms. Some who may recognize the trap in the system, understand that breaking outside of these boundaries can lead to personal challenge and achievement, can lead to, and in fact is necessary for self-actualization. Pushing the boundaries in novel, well-thought out ways, and knowing how far to push, are skills that must be consciously nurtured over a lifetime. They ensure that the escape from the norm is done in a controlled, intentional fashion, and occurs for the express purpose of achieving the intended end.
